Who we are
Afterglow Interpreting Services is a Perth-based agency specialising in providing Auslan interpreters for the arts, including theatre, concerts, and sporting events.
The name Afterglow comes from its dictionary definition: “a warm or pleasant feeling that remains after a good or successful experience.” This reflects our mission to create inclusive, memorable events where Deaf audiences feel fully immersed, and all stakeholders leave with a sense of connection and success.
We are committed to making the process easy and supportive for arts organisations, ensuring bookings are smooth and interpreters are well-prepared. Above all, we prioritise the experience of the Deaf community, working in partnership to foster access, enjoyment, and shared celebration.
Afterglow Interpreting Services proudly operates on Whadjuk Noongar boodja, whose sovereignty was never ceded, and we pay our respects to Elders past and present.
The founder
My name is Jane and I am the founder of Afterglow. I have worked as an Auslan interpreter for over 20 years and have lived in Perth/Boorloo my whole life. I have a deep love for the arts — especially theatre and live music — and with my husband working in the music industry for more than 30 years, I’ve been closely connected to Perth’s creative community for a long time.
This experience has shaped my vision for Afterglow: to provide a thoughtful, reliable service that caters for all stakeholders, while always prioritising the experience of the Deaf community.
For me, providing interpreting in the arts is about more than access — it’s about ensuring every audience member shares in the magic of performance, and that organisations and interpreters feel supported in creating truly inclusive events.
